Donald
Sound design for Tony Perucci's stage adaptation of Eric Martin and Stephen Elliot's novella about extraordinary rendition and political accountability.
Sound design for Donald, Tony Perucci’s stage adaptation of Eric Martin and Stephen Elliott’s 2011 novella, produced by Little Green Pig Theatrical Concern at Manbites Dog Theater in Durham, NC.
The production examined the Bush-Cheney-Rumsfeld legacy of extraordinary rendition and political torture through the story of a fictionalized kidnapping and interrogation of the former Secretary of Defense.
The sound design worked in concert with Alex Maness’s live and pre-recorded video montages, projected onto a four-sided ghost box of scrim that formed the walls of the title character’s cell. As the production’s psychological countermeasures were deployed, the sound design transformed the space from institutional confinement into disorienting nightmare.
Donald won INDY Week’s “Year in Theater” award for Best Design (2012).
